Artist Statement
The unifying factor in all of my photographic bodies of work is look the human quest for identity and how we choose to define ours. This comes in the form of documenting my sisters going into and through adolescence from 1996-2006. After that looking at discarded human objects to look for clues to the prior owner's identity. Ten Days in the CAPSULE questions social scripting in a performative photographic project. Currently I wrapped up a project called BAG looking at the contents of what people carry in their bags and what they are and are not willing to part with from their bags. There is always an underlying interest in sociology and cultural anthropology with my image making that allows for a reading of the work on multiple levels.
Process Statement
I look for what is around me for inspiration in what to photograph. This can come in the form of family, or the discarded trash of my neighbors.
The work since 2008 has been exclusively digital.
The work prior to 2008 was shot in film, primarily with a 6x7 camera and earlier with a 4x5 camera.
